This year the Christmas Lights Switch On will have a slight twist. Buckingham Town Council is still aiming to illuminate the town in order to provide Buckingham with festive cheer.
However, due to regulations on events, crowds and large gatherings and to maintain the safety of the residents, the usual way of running the event has been changed for your continued enjoyment and participation.
On Saturday 28th November, Buckingham Town Council are encouraging all residents and businesses to join in and switch their Christmas Lights on at 7pm and light up Buckingham as we welcome the festive season.
The town’s Christmas lights are already in place and the Christmas tree will be installed outside the Old Gaol on Friday.
Weather permitting two drones will be launched to capture the moment Buckingham lights up and there will be a special message from Father Christmas, Town Mayor, Cllr Geraldine Collins and some light heartedness from Bard of Buckingham Dean Jones. These messages will be shown on the Town Council’s social media pages and website.
Cllr Robin Stuchbury, Chairman of Buckingham Town Centre & Events Committee said;
‘This year has been one of the most difficult years for our Events Committee organising events. During discussions between the Town Council officers and the Events Committee it was felt we shouldn’t be deterred from trying to do something positive and inclusive which all the community can take part in. We are hoping it will go a small way to help community spirit at this important time, while encouraging people where safely to start shopping & supporting our local community shops’
