Work on the cemetery is set to begin in Spring 2025, with the project expected to be completed by late 2025. Upon completion, the cemetery will feature 1,060 burial plots, including sections for traditional lawn plots, family plots, and children’s sections. Initially, only full burials will be available, with ashes interments continuing at the Brackley Road Cemetery.
The Town Council’s Greenspaces Team has also carried out essential work to integrate the site with the surrounding landscape, including the installation of fencing designed to blend seamlessly with existing hedgerows. In addition to the cemetery, the site will include 50 allotment plots, each covering 125m², providing local residents with space for gardening. The development will also include water access and parking for 29 vehicles serving the cemetery, plus separate parking for allotment holders.
Looking ahead to Phase 2, the development will include the creation of a wildflower meadow. This serene, natural space will help support local wildlife and could eventually be incorporated into the cemetery’s expansion.

A comprehensive management plan will ensure that the cemetery and allotments are maintained with care and respect, safeguarding these valuable spaces for generations to come. This development marks a major step in providing a quiet, green area for local residents while enhancing Buckingham’s overall community offerings.
Town Mayor, Cllr. Anja Schaefer said “I am delighted that Buckingham Town Council has now been given planning permission for the new cemetery. It is so important that we can get on with the work now, so that the people of Buckingham have a local place to bury their loved ones into the future.”
