This past Saturday, 7th December, Buckingham Town Council proudly celebrated Small Business Saturday with a host of community-focused activities, including a sponsored rock hunt, a children’s reindeer trail, a mince pie tasting test, children’s crafts, and the launch of a ‘shop local’ prize draw.
Despite storm Darragh, and scaled back plans, enthusiastic shoppers, enjoyed exploring town, taking part in the activities, and showing their support for Buckingham’s local businesses. The event aimed to encourage people into town and highlight the importance of shopping locally to help our town thrive.
The sponsored rock hunt was a hit with participants of all ages, offering some fabulous prizes generously donated by brilliant Buckingham businesses. Buckingham Town Council would like to thank Body Matters, Finca El Monte, The Nimble Thimble, Howes the Florist, Pasha Fashion, Pure Patisserie, Villiers Hotel, The Kings Head, Mey Bar & Grill, Bea & Aud Lifestyle, Greetings Plus, Smith and Clay, Gazzeria, Buckingham Tea Rooms, Dipalee Lounge, Meadow Row Florist, Dandy Lions Boutique, Gilt Swan Antiques, COCO’s, Buckingham Bookshop, Manor Farm, Sweet Autumn, The Caravin Wine Shop, Prego, Carnitas, and Cornwall Place Kitchen for all their contributions.

We are also grateful to the Old Gaol Museum for hosting the Small Business Saturday HQ in their courtyard, to launch the ‘shop-local’ prize draw alongside the children’s crafts activities and the mince pie taste test.
The event was also supported by Buckinghamshire Council’s Retail Revival initiative, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts in boosting the local economy. Although Santa’s Grotto could not be used as planned, children still enjoyed completing the trail and collecting a gift from the reindeer mascot.
Robin Stuchbury, Chair of the Town Centre & Events Committee, said “Firstly, thank you to everyone involved in the Small Business Saturday activities. It is important to continue the support through our Town Centre Manager and Tourist Information Centre to ensure that businesses in our community prosper. The Town Centre and Events Committee are grateful for the actions of the officers who took part in these events. They are also most grateful to the local businesses and anyone who came along to support these events. It was also nice to have Buckinghamshire Council’s Retail Revival event taking place at the same time.”
