Walk, play, explore and discover Buckingham, with Buxplore. The NEW discover Buckingham app!
Do you have any questions about the app or how it works? We’ve popped a few of the most frequent questions and our answers down below.
If you are still stuck, or have any ideas about what we should do next with the app please email office@buckingham-tc.gov.uk and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
No, if you don’t want to download the app you can still use the app through your usual web browser, visit buxplore.web.app and hit let’s explore to start!
To download the app:
Visit buxplore.web.app from your iPhone or iPad
At the bottom of the Safari browser, find and tap on the share icon on the menu bar – it looks like a box with an up arrow.
From the list of share options, choose Add to Home Screen.
The Buxplore app icon will appear along with the app web address. Write ‘Buxplore’ in the box.
Once you click Add at the top, the Buxplore app will appear on your home screen!
Buxplore works on Android and Apple phone and tablets.
Recommended specifications are:
Android 5.1+ with Chrome 83+
Apple iPad Gen 5+ or iPhone 6+ with up to date Safari browser
Using a PC: Windows 7 or 10 using Chrome, Firefox or Edge browsers
Apple Mac with up to date Safari or Chrome
To experience the full benefit of the mobile Buxplore app, mobile data and location services need to be enabled.
Please be aware that in some more rural areas might have low phone signal may interfere with app functionality. If low signal is causing problems, we recommend turning on virtual mode.
Once you choose a route, the app will let you know some key information – whether the route is family friendly, accessible, good for a dog walk and whether there are public toilets and food and drink available in the area. All routes have audio options!
What’s the best place to start for trying a route with children?
We recommend starting with Heritage for Kids or the Green route, both have lots of activities to try.
Absolutely not! Buxplore saves your progress, so feel free to take as much time as you like over each route.
Some of the routes cover large areas of Buckingham, and are designed to be completed a little at a time. Other routes can easily be completed in an hour or two.
We know that many people in our community are shielding or self-isolation. If you would like to try the app but are not able to visit the locations in person, you can visit the app on your smart phone or via a computer.
Once you have downloaded the app, press let’s explore to view the routes available. Then:
Tap the three lines in the top right of your screen
Open the settings
Turn virtual mode on
You can now access all of the information on the app wherever you have a wifi connection.
From all over Buckingham, please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to get involved as a group or school.
In order to unlock the information at each location you need to visit that place. The map will show a red dot where you are now to help you find it.
When you arrive at the location your phone will buzz to unlock the content. If you arrive at the location and nothing happens please check your phone has location tracking and mobile data turned on.
At rural locations low phone signal may interfere with Buxplore working properly, we recommend turning on virtual mode in low signal areas.
