December the 9th was Christmas Card Day and this year the Town Council celebrated it with our very own Mayoral Christmas cards. Thank you to all the children who entered the Mayor of Buckingham’s first ever Christmas Card competition. We are also very grateful to all the parents who submitted their children’s designs, the school teachers who encouraged them to take part and our competition sponsor, Christina Newman of Black Dog Design – Buckingham, who paid for the original print run.
2020 has been a challenging year, so the idea of the community competition was to engage with local school children and help spread some festive cheer during the Covid restrictions. The Mayor, Cllr Geraldine Collins called upon local children age 4 to 16 years to get creative and design her official Christmas card inspired by the theme Christmas in Buckingham. The Mayor will be sending the cards out to other Mayor’s in Buckinghamshire and beyond.
We were delighted by the positive response. In just two weeks we received 50 colourful and creative designs which made it very difficult for the Mayor to decide the winners. The cards have been professionally printed and they are now on sale. The Mayor received hers on Christmas Card Day.

Congratulations to the three winners. Connie won the 4-7 category, Eva won the 8-11 category, both are pupils at Buckingham Primary School. Talitha, a student from the Royal Latin won the 12-16 category. Each winner will receive a pack of cards with their design to send to their family and friends. Every child who entered has received a printable certificate to say thank you and Happy Christmas.
The cards featuring the winner’s designs have been printed and are now on sale at the Buckingham Tourist Information Centre, inside the Old Gaol. They are available to purchase in packs of 6 for £4 each. All proceeds will be going to the Mayor’s charities; both local Buckingham charities. More of the great entries will also be shared on the town council’s social media pages during the Christmas period.
